Privacy Policy

1. Information that stays on your device

Tenets stores your saved passages, recent reading history, onboarding choices, detailed preference model, and autoplay preference locally on your Apple device. We do not upload that detailed reading history or preference model to our servers or provide it to Google. If you use Apple’s system share sheet, the services you choose may process the content under their own policies.

2. Information Tenets collects

Service and security data

The app contacts our API to retrieve content. It sends a random, app-generated installation identifier used only for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Cloudflare may process IP address, request metadata, and general location inferred from IP to deliver and secure the service. Tenets does not place raw IP addresses in its product telemetry database or use this security identifier for advertising.

Optional first-party telemetry

“Improve Tenets” is off until you affirmatively choose “Share Usage Data” during setup or turn it on in Settings. You can withdraw that choice at any time. While it is on, the app sends a separate random analytics installation identifier and allowlisted information such as:

• app and build version, iOS major version, coarse device class, and coarse network class;
• session totals and aggregate reading behavior, without passive passage IDs, passage text, saved-passage IDs, or onboarding answers;
• feed success, failure, latency, cache, and availability categories;
• ad-slot, request, fill, impression, click, creative, video, and estimated paid-event information;
• paywall views, purchase or restore result categories, and verified ad-free entitlement state; and
• coarse MetricKit crash, launch, hang, performance, resource, and termination buckets, without raw payloads or stack content.

An explicit content-feedback action may include the passage identifier and selected reason so we can review or act on the report. Tenets does not collect free-form feedback text in the pilot.

Subscriptions

Apple processes ad-free subscription purchases. Tenets receives product, transaction, purchase-result, and entitlement information needed to complete, restore, and honor the subscription. We do not receive your payment-card or bank account details.

Website

readtenets.com does not use advertising, analytics tags, or non-essential cookies. Cloudflare processes ordinary request and security data to serve and protect the site. If you email us, we receive the address, message, and any information you choose to include.

3. Advertising and Google

The free version uses Google AdMob to provide Native Advanced image or muted-video ads. Google’s Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform SDKs may process IP address, device or app-bounded identifiers, general location inferred from IP, advertising data, ad and video interactions, crash logs, and performance data to deliver, protect, measure, and report ads. Google and eligible advertising partners process this information under their own terms and privacy practices.

Tenets does not send Google its analytics installation identifier, security identifier, passive reading history, saved passages, onboarding answers, inferred interests, feedback profile, or passage text. We disable AdMob’s publisher first-party identifier and do not use Firebase Analytics or ad mediation in the pilot. Where applicable, the app uses Google’s privacy messaging to record U.S. state choices and signal restricted processing. Buying ad-free stops new AdMob requests.

We do not sell personal information for money. Some state privacy laws may classify the disclosure of device or ad-interaction data to advertising providers as a “sale,” “sharing,” or processing for targeted advertising even when no money is paid for the data. See Your choices and rights below.

4. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

• deliver content, purchases, support, and requested app features;
• secure the app and API, enforce rate limits, prevent fraud, and protect the AdMob account;
• measure reliability, retention, aggregate reading quality, ad performance, and subscription conversion;
• diagnose crashes, hangs, performance problems, and service failures;
• review explicit content feedback and maintain editorial quality;
• comply with law, enforce our terms, and establish or defend legal claims; and
• create aggregate or de-identified business measurements that we do not attempt to reidentify.

5. Recipients

Information may be processed by or disclosed to:

• Cloudflare, which hosts, delivers, stores, and protects the site, API, and telemetry database;
• Google and eligible advertising partners, which deliver, protect, and measure AdMob ads and provide privacy messaging;
• Apple, which distributes the app, processes subscriptions, supplies StoreKit status, and provides app diagnostics;
• professional advisers, authorities, or other parties when reasonably necessary for legal, safety, security, audit, or compliance purposes; and
• a successor or prospective counterparty in a financing, reorganization, sale, or transfer of the service, subject to appropriate safeguards.

We do not operate a data-broker business and do not provide advertisers with a Tenets reading profile.

6. Retention

Apple, Google, and Cloudflare set retention periods for information they process under their own policies. We may preserve information longer when reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, comply with law, or establish or defend legal claims. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it.

7. Your choices and privacy rights

• Improve Tenets: turn it off in Settings to clear queued events, stop new first-party product and MetricKit uploads, and request deletion of raw telemetry associated with the old analytics identifier.
• Reset Analytics Identifier: use Settings to request deletion of raw telemetry for the old identifier and start a new analytics cohort if Improve Tenets remains on.
• Privacy Choices: when shown in Settings, use Google’s form to exercise applicable advertising choices. This control is separate from Improve Tenets.
• Ad-free subscription: a valid subscription stops new AdMob requests. Historical provider and accounting records are not erased by subscribing.
• Local data: use the app’s settings to clear supported on-device history, saved passages, or feedback state, or delete the app to remove its local container subject to Apple’s device and backup behavior.

Depending on your state and whether a law applies to Tenets, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; appeal a denied request; and opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. We do not use personal information for decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information to infer characteristics.

To make a request or appeal, email privacy@readtenets.com. Because Tenets has no account and does not associate telemetry with your name or email address, the in-app deletion control is usually the most reliable way to locate and delete raw telemetry. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to understand, verify, and fulfill a request. Authorized agents may submit requests as permitted by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

The website does not run advertising or analytics, so it has no browser-based sale or sharing to opt out of. App advertising choices are handled in the app through Privacy Choices when the entry point is required.

8. Security

We use administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted transport, strict event allowlists, pseudonymous identifiers, access controls, bounded logging, deletion controls, and retention limits. No system can be guaranteed completely secure.

9. Children

Tenets is a general-audience service intended for people age 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. If you believe a child provided personal information in a manner prohibited by law, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

10. U.S. service and processing locations

The pilot is offered only through the United States App Store. We and our providers may process information in the United States and other locations where they operate. This policy is designed for the U.S. pilot and does not authorize launching the service in another country without a new privacy and legal review.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the app, providers, law, or our practices. We will post the revised policy here and update its effective date. If a change materially affects your choices, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
